What is two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication is a two-step login process. In addition to your username and password, you must enter a code that you receive on an authenticator app or SMS when you log in. The purpose of this is to add an extra "layer" of security, which means that a stolen password is not enough for someone to break into your account - in other words, your account is better protected.
Setting up two-factor authentication for your account is not mandatory, but we highly recommend it for all our customers!
How do I enable two-factor authentication?
To enable two-factor authentication for your Jottacloud account, go to www.jottacloud.com/web/secure. You will have two options for how to set up the authentication:
With app
SMS
We recommend using app as it is more reliable, and you will have recovery codes if you lose access to your app or phone.
Enable two-factor authentication using an app
Before selecting app as your 2-factor authenticator you have to download an authenticator app if you have not done it before. We recommend the following apps as they support backup of your authentication codes: Authy or 1Password.
Download an Authenticator App
Choose an app like Authy or 1Password.
Install it on your device.
Select "App" as Your 2-Factor Authenticator
Navigate to the 2-factor authentication settings in your account.
Choose "App" as your method.
Save Your Recovery Codes
After selecting the app option, you will receive recovery codes.
Save these codes by downloading or copying them.
These codes are crucial if you lose access to your authenticator app.
Scan the QR Code or Use a One-Time Code
Open your authenticator app.
Scan the provided QR code. If you can't scan it, use the provided one-time code.
Enter the Six-Digit Code
The authenticator app will generate a six-digit code.
Enter this code on the webpage to activate 2-factor authentication.
Once completed, 2-factor authentication will be enabled for your account.
Enable two-factor authentication using SMS

Navigate to the 2-factor authentication settings in your account.
Choose "SMS" as your method.
Verify Your Password
You will be prompted to enter your password to proceed.
Enter your password to continue.
Enter Your Mobile Number
If you haven’t saved your mobile number before, you will be asked to enter it now.
Provide your mobile number for verification.
Verify Your Mobile Number
A verification code will be sent to your mobile number via SMS.
Enter the verification code on the webpage.
Once completed, 2-factor authentication will be enabled for your account.
How does it work?
After turning on two-factor authentication, you will be prompted for a six-digit code in addition to your username and password at each login.
The code will automatically be generated to your app or be sent as a SMS, once you have entered your username and password.
