How to Delete Folders from Backup (Old Desktop App)

How to delete folders from Backup in the old desktop application

Updated yesterday

Jottacloud treats Backup differently from Sync and Archive to help protect important data from accidental deletion.

The process for deleting folders depends on whether you are deleting in the desktop application or when logged in to our webpage.

How to delete folders from Backup in the desktop application

You can delete individual folders from Backup using the desktop application:

  • Open the Jottacloud desktop application

  • Go to the Backup section

  • Select the folder you want to remove

  • Click "Delete folder"

This will stop the backup process and delete the folder from your Backup storage in the cloud.

Important:

  • If you delete the folder locally on your computer, it will also be deleted from Backup in the cloud.

  • If you want to keep the folder on your computer but remove it from Jottacloud, you must delete the folder in the desktop application.

How to delete folders from Backup on web

It is not possible to delete individual folders from a backup associated with another device unless you are using that device. If you are not on the original device, you must delete the entire device backup. If you want to keep some of the content before doing so, follow these steps:

  • Move or copy the folders you want to keep to Sync or Archive
(Archive is recommended if the device is no longer in use)

  • Go to the Backup section

  • Select the device

  • Click "Delete"

  • Confirm the deletion

If the device is still in use but you no longer want to back it up with Jottacloud, we recommend uninstalling the desktop application on that device.

Note:
If you still have access to the other device, you can log in there and remove specific folders from Backup either locally or through the Jottacloud desktop application. This allows you to delete only selected folders without removing the entire backup.
